After reading this blog I have a lot to reflect on. Most of it felt like a deeper review from my sophomore year of high school. However, each section about the different era's and advancements had something I didn't know before. For example,  I didn't know that Homo sapiens took homes in the Arctic, the rainforest of Central Africa, Brazilian mountains, deserts, and plains. I also really liked how the textbook incorporated a lot of charts. Often times it's hard for me to remember dates and times in History. What stood out the most to me was how women were portrayed back then. In Germany figurines of women were carved with large breasts, hips, and buttocks. They were also given the roles of gathers from early on. This strikes my attention because I can see how this has shapped society today. Women are still seen as figures who should have large breast, hips, and buttocks. Women are still seen as being only able to handle easy jobs. I never knew that this was how they were portrayed back then but now I see why it's so hard for us to shake these ideas to this day.

Chapter 11 Blog

Chapter 11 was about Pastoral people on the global stage. This chapter discusses the Mongol people. The Mongol people had a smaller population than agricultural societies and lived in small encampments. Families were based upon clans that had a common ancestry.  Women had higher status and fewer restrictions. All women were involved in productive labor while still having domestic responsibility for food and children. Unlike the Chinese, the Mongols didn't believe the remarriage of a widow was negative. Also, women could get a divorce if they wanted to. Many Mongol women were political advisors and were even active in the military. Women weren't looked at as delicate. They were allowed to participate in active activities like horse riding and archery. Unlike many other civilizations, women fared very well in Mongol society. This is important because it was rare for women to be put near the same status as men.

Chapter 6 Blog

One thing that stood out to me in the reading was the city of Teotihuacan. More specifically the street life of this stood out to me. The city is described as very vibrant. Buikdings had murals painted onto them, sculptures, or images. The murals were nostly of gods and goddesses. This interested me because it shows what the culture was like in this city.

Chapter 8 Blog

Chapter 8's reading was about China. An interesting thing I learned about China while reading was that China had a Golen Age. During the GoldenAge China created an examination system to staff their bureaucracy. The examination system was a merit-based system. However many people of higher status till got jobs regardless of failing the exams. China's population skyrocketed to 60 million to 120 million by 1200. This boom in population was one cause for China's advancement. Another cause for China's advancement was the new strain of rice they were getting from Vietnam. The rice they got from Vietnam ripened faster and was drought tolerant. With the increasing population, the rice played a key role in feeding their growing population. China's large population consisted of many people from different cultures and backgrounds. There were many forms of entertainment for the people of China.
